Avengers Infinity War The Review: A Phenomenal Event in Cinema

After a long wait, It's here...
I know it's a bit late for the review.
The movie released last Friday and before I put out this review, I
wanted to make sure I got everything right. So I watched the movie
second time today and now finally I'm putting forward this review. Avengers:
infinity War, the most ambitious crossover event in the history
of cinema has finally come out. The culmination of 10 years of marvel
movies has a lot to live up to. All the hype and praise surrounding
this movie is phenomenal. So did it live up to the hype and all the
story building starting from Iron man till this point? Well, it did
more than that.
Synopsis:
Avengers have to assemble once again to
face against the mad titan Thanos and prevent him from getting all
six infinity stones, the singularities with powers unparalleled. What
will it take the avengers to defeat this villain? Will they succeed?
That's the crux of this movie.
Movie of this Decade:
I have been expecting this movie for
almost 5-6 years now. Ever since it was announced, the whole Marvel
Cinematic Universe got a lot of attention from the fans. The story
and character building in these movies really paid off in Infinity
War. You can watch Infinity War without seeing other marvel movies [
If you like a LOT of action]. But you can truly experience this
event, this phenomenon, only if you have seen other 18 marvel movies
[which I totally recommend to watch].
This movie will hold a special place in
cinematic history. It's already breaking all the records on box
office, but that's for the producers to worry about. What we got here
is the impossible, the event that fans hitherto undreamt of.
I'll try my best to be unbiased here
and try very hard to nitpick the things that I thought was off in the
movie and make this review a balanced one.
Destiny has arrived:
Speaking of balance, kudos to the
screenplay writers Christopher Markus and Stephen Mcfeely for this
brilliant masterpiece of a screenplay. The movie starts off right
away and tone is set in a way that we have never seen in any previous
marvel movie before. Immediately, you sense the tension, the immense
terrifying feeling with the arrival of Thanos. Then the movie shifts
back and forth between different tones and you won't even notice it
that much. That's what makes this a great movie. You get a intense
scene with deep dialogues and suddenly some character cracks a joke
and the action starts and then the emotional scene comes. This
happens all at once and in a rapid pace. They won't even give you
time to breath. The movie is exceptionally balanced and the tone
switches continuously throughout the movie. One scene you will be
moved and in the very next scene you will be in awe of the action
scenes and in the next you will be laughing at a joke. This
roller coaster of emotions is what makes this more than a movie.
The Heroes of Marvel:
There is no great movie without the
great responsibility of the director. Hats off to Anthony and Joe
Russo for handling all the characters in this movie so effortlessly.
You got characters from Iron man, Thor, Captain America, Guardians
of the Galaxy movies and all of them are directed by different
directors. Surprisingly, all of them fitted perfectly and none of
them felt out of place and character. Balancing all these characters
and giving them importance and considerable amount of screen time [
remember this movie has over 30-40 main characters] is an incredibly
hard job. But the Russo brothers did it. Especially some of them are
being introduced to the avengers for the first time and their
interactions on first time meeting are just a treat to watch. The
already established characters in the team are played exactly like
where they left off in their previous movies.
Thanos [played by Josh Brolin]
is just phenomenal. Marvel finally fixed the problem with their
villains. He is fierce, strong, smart, terrifying and probably the
best villain of all time. If you have watched the movie, you'll know
what I mean. He gets the most screen time in this film. They promised
a great villain and they delivered.
Blockbuster action:
The major part which defines this movie
would be the action sequences. From here on, if someone says “some
xxx movie has cool and spectacular action sequences”, I would ask
“but does it have Infinity war level action sequences”. This
movie is the manifestation of action movies. The fight scenes are so
brilliantly choreographed and every hero is utilized in such a great
way. Some of the action scenes blew my mind in a way I had to watch
it one more time to fully understand what's going on.
Negatives:
I said I'll be unbiased so I have to
say some negatives. Obviously, no movie is perfect. But the only
negative point that I can give this movie is that it's not long
enough [ it runs 2hours and 29minutes].
Given the huge roster of characters, I
expected it to be atleast 3 hours long. Because of that short run-time
some of the characters didn't get that much of a screen than they
deserved. Another con is that this film is not exactly the
culmination of marvel but a part of the real culmination that's gonna
happen by this time next year.
Conclusion:
Phase 3 of marvel has been a hell of a
ride. We got Captain America; Civil War, most interesting
marvel movie in my opinion. Then we got Doctor Strange, our
first introduction to the mystic world of marvel. Then we got
Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2, an excellent follow-up to the
surprisingly great first one and then we got Spiderman:
Homecoming, with the perfect casting choice for Spider man,
Thor:Ragnarok, a surprisingly funny and weird action movie and
then finally the cultural phenomenon Black Panther. All these
movies and the previous marvel movies are tied into this movie in a
brilliant way and gave us the most emotional, Jaw-dropping classic
with the boldest ending I have ever seen in a movie.
