Celebrating 10 Years of Marvel Studios:The Road To Infinity War
It's here. It's finally here. Avengers:
Infinity War releases today. Its been 10 years since the first Iron
Man movie which reshaped the superhero genre and opened the doorway
for a new and unique way of storytelling: Shared Universe. The post
credit scene in Iron Man is a significant one and only few knew at
that time to wait for these post credit scenes at the end of the
movie. The moment Nick fury stepped out of the shadows and told Tony
“ I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers initiative”, I knew
its going to be a hell of a ride and they didn't dissapoint. 18
movies [few missteps in the way] but still they were unshakable.
The end is near:
Now after 10 years, we are here at the
culmination of 10 years of Marvel. "The end is near" is the best and the
most suitable tagline for Marvel Cinematic Universe right now. Or not. Let me rephrase
that. It is the perfect tagline for the first 10 years of MCU.
Because end is only the beginning, the beginning of something new and
fresh. They still have thousands of stories to be told and many other
different superheroes to introduce.
Avengers assemble:
When the first Iron Man came out in
2008, it was just an another superhero movie for most of the audience
and also it was overshadowed by the humongous success of Christopher
Nolan's brilliant Batman The Dark Knight. First Iron Man movie was
grounded and realistic and it was a separate entity. But soon other
superhero movies started to emerge from Marvel Studios, the studio
that once went bankrupt and sold all its character rights to
different studios[ fox studios, Universal studios, Paramount studios,
Sony's Columbia Pictures and later most of them are bought by
Disney]. These superhero movies are different in theme, genre and
overall approach but was connected by these post credit scenes.
Finally in 2012, the world witnessed the first contemporary superhero
team-up movie, the task which was considered impossible by many at that
time. It became a huge success.
Avengers effect:
After that there was a phase called
“Avengers effect” as called by the fans. The post avengers movies
[ Iron Man 3, Thor:The Dark World] were not perfect by any means, but
it succeeded nonetheless not because they are the best movies in the
world but because of the potential they held for future stories to be
told. Then came Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel's major misstep [
though it succeeded at the box office very well]. It was criticized
by the fans so much for not telling the story it was meant to tell
but instead setting up the future movies [Captain America: Civil War,
Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers Infinity War]. But now when
you think about it, there is no Infinity War without that movie.
The Culmination of 10 Years:
After that every movie was giving the
finishing touches to the journey and some of them introduced new
characters and opportunities. In the end, Everything is tied to one
major event: Avengers: Infinity War. Almost every
character that was introduced in the MCU will come together to fight
the most terrific, smartest, badass villain ever appeared on screen:
Thanos, the mad titan who first appeared in the first Avengers movie
back in 2012 in a post credit scene.
Conclusion:
So it's all coming to an end.
Everything that has been build up to this point has reached its
destiny.
Sure, there will be a lot more marvel
movies in the future and many of them already in production, but it won't
be same. So I thank Marvel Studios for giving us the fans the most
amazing, one-of-a-kind cinema experience and also the cast of the
Avengers for brilliantly portraying the characters and for putting
their heart and soul into the character to justify them in every way.
